Catalyzing Innovation: From Concept to Commercial

At INVISTA, we leverage decades of expertise in nylon polymer science and our global R&D capabilities to develop cutting-edge nylon 6,6 solutions to drive our customers’ business forward. Whether you’re focused on improving product performance, exploring new applications or evaluating ways to make your process more efficient, we have the resources, experience and technical proficiency to help you meet your goals.

Technical Capabilities Around the World

Our primary innovation centers in Texas and Shanghai function as collaborative environments where new ideas are tested and developed for the benefit of our customers. These centers have complementary capabilities for handling all aspects of polymer formulation and evaluation — from testing raw materials all the way through fiber spinning (coming late 2025) and injection molding — providing the process expertise to help our partners drive production innovation and develop breakthrough technologies for nylon 6,6.

Texas Technology Center

The Texas Technology Center (TTC) in Houston is a $13 million technology hub and research & development center ideally situated in the heart of Texas' chemical intermediates industry. This modern, 40,000-square-foot campus meets INVISTA's global technology needs, with a focus on analytical and experimental support for process and product innovation across the nylon 6,6 value chain.

Leveraging the world-class scientists behind our leading-edge ADN technology, the TTC's extensive expertise with chemical intermediates opens new opportunities to solve polymer, compounding and fiber spinning challenges at their core. As a hub for early-stage innovation and prototype evaluation, the TTC can provide fresh thinking paired with advanced process solutions (such as chemical recycling of nylon 6,6).

Our TTC Capabilities Include:

  • Lab-scale polymerization, compounding and reactive extrusion leveraging advanced equipment, including a 300cc autoclave and 18mm twin-screw extruder (coming in 2026).
  • Surface characterization through physisorption and chemisorption for testing material interactions.
  • Chemical identification capabilities for molecular structure, functional groups and bonds, and atom connectivity.

  • Rheology testing to evaluate viscosity and flow properties (coming in 2026).
  • Precise elemental analysis enabling the detection of trace elements at low concentrations.
  • Additional in-house testing and analytical services to assess physiochemical properties such as phase changes, transition temperature, material composition and more.

Asia Innovation Center

Located in China’s Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, our Asia Innovation Center (AIC) is an end-to-end R&D facility that accelerates product innovation, providing customers access to state-of-the-art analytical tools, flexible testing capabilities and real-time process optimization. The AIC team’s expertise on polymer development, testing and end-use performance evaluation is a perfect complement to the TTC’s focus on upstream intermediates and their translation into polymer properties.

With a collaborative approach from a dedicated team, the AIC helps turn ideas into commercially viable solutions fast and efficiently.

To further expand these capabilities, the AIC will be introducing a new lab-scale fiber spinning machine for industrial and apparel applications (coming in 2025). This addition will enhance INVISTA’s ability to support customers from concept through commercialization and is a direct reflection of our ongoing commitment to investing in research and development.

Our AIC Capabilities Include:

  • Flexible pilot-scale production capabilities, including polymer synthesis and twin-screw compounding, reducing development time and costs.
  • State-of-the-art in-house laboratory to conduct extensive physical and chemical testing and evaluate material performance.

  • Custom polymer chemistry solutions that meet the requirements of the world’s toughest applications.
  • Support at full-scale production to troubleshoot any issues and optimize production, along with technical marketing assistance.

Localized Testing for Faster Turnaround

In addition to these global innovation and technology centers, several of our polymer production sites have their own in-house labs for continuous improvement and support for customers’ quality testing needs, enabling improved polymer processing at their facilities. This network of regional production labs and facilities provides comprehensive hands-on testing capabilities for everything from chemical intermediates to fiber, offering smaller-scale solutions with speed, flexibility and ease of application.

If you’re looking for help overcoming your biggest challenges, let’s get to work.

Focused on the future state of nylon polymer
